Resumo:

In today´s world intercultural communication tends to shape the way people deal with change, deliver messages across borders and cultures, and revisit the fundamental properties of time and space. Effective functioning in an international business environment depends on the ability of professionals to adapt to the complexity of other cultures as they should be prepared to spend a considerable amount of time communicating across cultures with other people and organizations around the world. Students of Foreign Languages need to learn how to effectively understand, accept, and respond to cultural differences. This is the theses of Aleixei V. Matveev, of Ohio University (USA). The purpose to bring it upon discussion is to teach English based on the theories of thematic unit (Margaret Kersten - Carleton University - Canada)  and c ommunicative approach (José Carlos Paes de Almeida Filho – Universidade Estadual de Campinas - Brazil).
